We are in the thick of this now in our district. This year the focus is common assessments. I have been part of many discussions of moving our grading to skill based report cards. I like the idea and believe it is a better assessment of what each student has learned. I am excited to get a document to try and see how it works.
Are skill based report cards something parents will like?
Why do we need to spend so much time formally assessing students?
Is there a time when someone will stand up and say spend more time teaching and less time assessing students?
By the fall of 2011 I will be implementing standards based grading for reading in 4th grade.
